Drumshanbo Vocational School

Home

On Friday January 12th, the Mental Health Organisation hosted the schools public speaking competition in Carrick Community School.  The topic discussed was "Media and how it effects peoples lives".

This competition has being running since the early 1990's, and Drumshanbo Vocational School has a very good previous record since attending, in addition to winning the competition last year.

Our hopes this year lay with Christopher Hayden, Eirin O'Connor and Geraldine Cannon, tutored by Ms. O'Neill and Mr. McManus.  This team has been working together since November 2005, and a lot of time and effort has been put into the preparation for the competition.  The team researched their topic through the Internet, books and social studies.

The competition was attended by teachers, students and their families.  Christopher, Eirin and Geraldine all spoke for approximately five minutes and finished with a strong concluding argument.  The team did well to hold off the opposition but unfortunately came runner up to Lough Allen College Drumkeeran.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for attending  on the night and the teachers for allowing the team time to prepare for the competition.  Most of all, we would like to show our appreciation to all the members of the team, and their tutors for all their hard work and dedication, you have done the school proud.
