On Monday 15th of May, five students from Drumshanbo VS travelled to the Sligo Park Hotel, where they were presented with their Gasce Awards and certificates.   They had a chance to meet some other participants from the Sligo-Leitrim division.  The Gaisce Award is Irelands most respected award programme, a challenge from the President of Ireland, to young people between 15 and 25 years of age.  It works on the basis of a personal challenge set by the individual themselves.  There are three different types of award that you can earn – bronze, silver and gold.  Congratulations goes to Colm O'Dwyer who was presented with the silver award.  Congrats also goes to Jennifer Benson, Geraldine Cannon, Chloe Mc Guckian and Emma Dunne who were presented with the bronze award.

Each one of these students successfully completed their tasks in areas of skill, community, physical and adventure.  They undertook outdoor pursuits, learned new skills such as public speaking and learning how to play the guitar.  The students trained teams in the area of basketball and volleyball.  Colm O'Dwyer spent some time aiding people with dyslexia.  Many thanks goes to Miss Traynor and Miss Coyne the PALs (President Award Leaders), who provided the students with guidance and assistance.
